5 - We're All Roadies Here

Night Two

Is still shaky, hex can’t lie. Lady Electrode says "Hey I'll do front-of-house sound, promise everything's fine, we have one of the regulars on tonight. Go be A2." Obsidian tries to hype hexxelf up about being the assistant- it'll be easier, probably. "And remember, Obsidian, I said everyone plays a lot of parts- go learn that one. Ghostlight will be back there if you need anything." Obsidian nods.

"Here's the set list, at the 15 minute intermission to swap shit, mostly it should be just swapping out personal guitars we're stocked with most stuff." Ghostlight hands hex some papers with one corporeal hand, the rest of her misty as usual.

"Oh wow cool" Obsidian nods.

"Well its more that no one can afford all their own stuff so we're the communal supply of XLRs" "That- tracks"

"Break a leg?" Hex tenatively smiles at her

"Break a leg sweetheart" Ghostlight ruffles hext hair and then floats up into the rafters.

"Hi, you guys are-?" Obsidian looks between the papers and the two guys in front of hex, one shirtless in just tiger print pants, the other in a complex wizard cosplay.

"Breast Compensation? we should be first on the set list so like where can we put all our shit?" The wizard robed one asks.

"Right, let me show you to the greenroom" Obsidian leads them down a small set of stairs into the cramped dressing room/greenroom/room to put band stuff in.

"Hey! Garfield how's it hanging?!" A person with curly red hair up in buns to form a mohawk shape gives the guy in tiger pants a complex fist bump, chest bump, high five combo.

"Scarlet! its good to see you!" Garfield replies.

"Wiz! My man! Great fit!" They compliment Wiz, the wizardly one. "And you are?" The person turns to Obsidian.

"Oh I'm not with the band. Obsidian hex/hexa. I'll be tech for you guys." Obsidian says quickly.

"Ok right on. I'm Scar/let, ze/hir," Scar/let shakes hext hand. "Or call me Scar for short" ze winks.

"Theres water at the snack table and your cases can go over here." Hex says, trying to be helpful.

"Sweet! This isn't our first rodeo y'know. So you can leave your grand tour to the folks in Breast Compensation." Scar/let explains.

"O-kay." Hex shifts from foot to foot, so much for A2 being easier, this is just rubbing in hext imposter syndrome.

"Oh right! Sooo you're new, so like, this is Daisy our drummer is over there" Ze gestures to a girl behind hir.

"Hii" Daisy waves then goes back to her makeup.

"And uhh Lyre is around somewhere you'll see faer, boring t-shirt can't miss him." Scar/let shrugs.

Obsidian turned to the two guys setting up their guitars. "Garfield and Wiz are you going to use all these pedals chained together?"

"Sure am Mx.!" Wiz gave a thumbs up

"Ok I'll get all of this rigged up to the snakes. Your sound check is in 15."

"Aye aye captain! Thank you 15!" Garfield salutes bows to hex overly enthusiastically and Obsidian giggles.

Obsidian is almost done setting up Breast Compensation for what is guaranteed to be some synth packed noise-rock sound. Garfield and Wiz set up their amps. Hex brings out the two mic stands and tracks the cables from the snake to the stands but hex is missing the actual mics. Hex ducks around the corner

"Ugh where are those mics?" Obsidian tugs hext hair in frustration.

"Here,"

"Thanks,"

A roadie hands hex two of exactly the type of sure mic hex needed. Hex glances to hext side and got a glimpse of a t-shirt sleeve. But when hex g;ances at the mics and looks back the person is gone. Hex doesn't have time to spare so hex books it to the stage, clips in the mics and their wires and calls up Breast Compensation for their sound check.

Breast Compensation sounds great, after a bit of fine tuning that is. And when Obsidian wanders around the space - up front by the soon to be mosh pit - and way back to near the door it all sounds okay to hex.

At the start of intermission Obsidian rushes to the stage along the side wall of the venue to doge the crowd of kids. Hex helps Garfield unhook all of his pedals and Wiz, brought their guitar cases. Obsidian glances around at the stage, mentally mapping out where the next act will put their stuff.

Next hex quickly goes back to the greenroom. There is a lot to do, fast, but someone helps hex carry in guitars.

“Hey thanks man, I'll take it from here got the set-up blue prints.” Obsidian says.

“Hah blue prints and blue hair” They say and grin.

“Oh yeah!” Obsidian often forgets hext own physical appearance.

“Whats your name kid?”

“Obsidian, hex/hexa. I'm um, new.”

“That's cool Im Lyre he/fae.” Lyre tucked some of faer curly purple hair behind faer ear nervously.

“Nice, well thanks for the help lifting.” hex doesn’t say 'because you’re a good amount stronger than I am'. Hex sets up the guitars and pedals and is waiting around, hext feet are starting to ache, the second act band should be here soon. Hex waves to Lyre when he pops out of the green room. Fae waves back then passes hex in the wing, and walks on stage.

“Wait you’re-”

“What, in the play?” Lyre looks to the side from tuning his metalic purple and black guitar, looking amused.

“Shit I'm so sorry that i thought you were a roadie…” Obsidian face palms.

“We’re all roadies here. And the kids who make it big? They were still roadies at some point.” Fae says looking off into the crowd.

“You have a point.” Obsidian says.

In toe behind him is a person w bright red hair, Scar/let who had just introduced hirself and a girl with intense glam make up spinning drum sticks, Daisy in her final look. Obsidian watches over the sound check, adjusting a few things per Lady Electrode’s instructions on hext headset, and with the crowd not roaring yet, hex actually appreciates the skill Lyre has on the guitar. Suddenly the cold metal stool in the wings hex is going to be posted up on all night doesn’t seem like such a bad place to be.
